Under One Roof

An exhibition by Newcastle University BA Fine Art Graduates of 2020, brought together for the first time since the pandemic disrupted their final degree show exhibition.

Jennifer Banfield explores the underground as a landscape, depicting it through memory, myth and material. The work tackles the experience of this unique landscape, its isolation and disorientation. In the isolation of the underground, she aims to depict and examine this landscape as an unconscious representation of the self.

The earth stream cackles through the Giants Hall. The tumbling water whispers beckoning through the sodden surface boundary.

The void bulges, warping and bubbling the overgrown earth.
